Lyrics

“There's a Monster under my bed,” I said, as daddy tucked me in.
“Really, a Monster under my bed,” I said.  Daddy looked at me and grinned.
Then he sat back down next to me, and looked me in the eye.
“That Monster under your bed,” he said, “is about to say goodbye.”

I could tell by the way he looked at me that this would be a war.
Like the time he fought the weeds in the garden, I'd seen that look before.
Then he got down on his hands and knees and gave me one last look.
That's not the last time I saw my old man with the flashlight that he took.

The night my dad fought the Monster
The Monster under my bed
The night my dad fought the Monster
He yelled, “I've got him by the head.”
There was a fightin' and a yellin' and a kickin' and a swearin'
A rumble under the sheets
The night my dad fought the Monster,
My dad he can't be beat.

Well, my dad fought that Monster for what seemed like hours.
I stayed up on my bed and prayed dad wouldn't be devoured.
Then it happened, everything stopped.  Something was crawling out.
It was the Monster under my bed he said, “I'm leaving, your dad wore me out.”

The night my dad fought the Monster
The Monster under my bed
The night my dad fought the Monster
He yelled, “I've got him by the head.”
There was a fightin' and a yellin' and a kickin' and a swearin'
A rumble under the sheets
The night my dad fought the Monster,
My dad he can't be beat.

The Monster left as dad crawled out we hugged and kissed goodnight.
I thanked dad for helping out, cause that Monster was an awful sight.
Dad said, “One day you'll have to face your fears, but you're just a little guy.
So for now I'll fight your monsters,” he turned back and winked his eye.
